At Home with History
Two centennial anniversaries celebrated this year
As the 100th anniversary of the Lincoln automobile was celebrated recently, another centennial milestone was commemorated with the restoration of the water wheel at Kirby’s mill.
Tucked in among the lakes, streams and wooded trails at the Richfield Heritage Preserve, this water-powered millwheel produced hydroelectric power for the home and workshop of James Kirby, best known for his washing machines and vacuum cleaners
National Register of Historic Landmarks
Placed on the National Register of Historic Landmarks in 1978, the historically accurate and extremely challenging restoration of the Kirby family home and millwheel is ongoing, thanks to the Friends of the Richfield Heritage Preserve.
Century-old restorations
The last outdoor photo of the year for Village Auto Body owner, Rick Hudak, pairs the operational millwheel in the 100-year-old sluice with the just over 100-year-old Lincoln, first produced in 1921.
The Kirby Mill and other historically significant features of the Richfield Heritage Preserve Park are right here, in our own backyards, where it’s easy to appreciate some of the finer examples of our history. Their preservation is essential.
A bit of history always on display
Remember, Hudak’s 1921 Lincoln and 1912 Cadillac, both restored at his shop, are always on display at the office, where you can see them up close.
Look back and look ahead
As we celebrate the close of another year with holiday festivities, friends and family, it is also a time for reflection and anticipation.
We can look back on a year of challenges, changes and accomplishments. Then turn our gaze forward upon a new year with hope and optimism.
Village Auto Body and the Hudaks wish you a joyful holiday and prosperous new year!
